WHY WOULD I USE GIANT HYDRA?
Giant Hydra is a phenomenal tool that grants you access to many different creative minds from all over the world. It’s the perfect creative resource, whether you are ramping up for a big pitch, if your creative department is swamped with work, or any time you’d just like to see how different people would tackle a creative problem you might have.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The concept behind Giant Hydra is simple, but the results are extraordinary: You provide Giant Hydra with a summary of your brief, which is sent out to hundreds of ‘HydraHeads’ within the system. Eligible, available and interested HydraHeads apply to work on your project, and from these applications you put together a stellar team, who are then given more detail about the project. The team then gets to work, tackling your problem from every possible angle, with a Giant Hydra Project Manager at the helm, guiding the process throughout the project’s duration.
IS THIS WHAT THEY CALL ‘CROWDSOURCING’?
The term “crowdsourcing” has been used quite frequently these days, and it seems to mean different things to different people. In many cases, crowdsourcing models have involved a project being sent out to hundreds of participants, with each one working independently of each other and without regular client input. The participants operate in a vacuum, all hoping that their idea gets picked.
Giant Hydra is different. The model behind Giant Hydra is rooted in mass collaboration. The team working on a Giant Hydra project is just that: a team. Every HydraHead works together, creating new ideas, discussing them and helping each other to make each one better. The end result is a larger selection of brilliant concepts, all thoroughly fleshed out by the whole team.
WHAT KINDS OF COMPANIES HAVE USED GIANT HYDRA?
Giant Hydra’s primary users have been advertising agencies, from small and mid sized independent shops to multinationals such as Ogilvy & Mather, TBWA and BBDO. Larger agencies with multiple offices have even used Giant Hydra to facilitate working on projects between different locations, using employees as HydraHeads,
Giant Hydra’s reach has also extended beyond agencies; we have worked on projects with production companies and even marketers, serving as an alternative to their traditional agencies.
WHO ARE THE HYDRAHEADS?
The HydraHeads consist of hundreds of ad people from around the globe. While most of them are copywriters, art directors, interactive designers and other roles you’d find in a creative department, Giant Hydra also includes planners, strategists, directors, producers, photographers and more, all ready to bring in different ways of thinking to your project.
The level of talent and passion found amongst the HydraHeads is remarkable. There are numerous HydraHeads with plenty of agency experience, some even at the creative director level. Many HydraHeads have resumes, portfolios and accolades that will blow you away, and here they are, ready to work for you.
HOW ARE HYDRAHEADS CHOSEN FOR MY PROJECT?
All HydraHeads are notified as soon as your project is posted. Those who wish to participate simply apply to the project.
As the project’s Creative Director, you have full control over who gets selected for your team. Giant Hydra gives you the tools to help you make informed choices. Of course, should you need a hand, your Giant Hydra Project Manager can offer recommendations to help you put together the best team for your project.
WHAT DO I DO ONCE A PROJECT HAS STARTED?
Just like a Creative Director in the real world, you will be responsible to guide your team of HydraHeads in the right direction. This means answering questions about the brief, checking in to approve certain trains of thought, steer wandering ideas back on course and to kill directions that stray too far away from your expectations. But don’t worry: the intuitive Giant Hydra interface makes staying engaged with your team a piece of cake, and your Giant Hydra Project Manager is there to help you every step of the way.
WHAT ARE THE HYDRAHEADS DOING ONCE A PROJECT HAS STARTED?
One thing the HydraHeads aren’t doing is sitting around and keeping to themselves. The key to Giant Hydra is collaboration, and every HydraHead on your project is working together, as a team, from the moment the project begins. They share their thoughts and ideas with their teammates, and actively work together to make every idea better.
Everything the HydraHeads do is within the Giant Hydra system, where you can casually observe what’s happening at any given time, or jump right into the thick of things and actively guide them. And because your team of HydraHeads may be spread from Toronto to Tokyo and from San Francisco to Sao Paulo, a project may be worked on 24 hours a day.
HOW QUICKLY CAN I START A PROJECT?
Once an agreement is made with Giant Hydra, a project can be posted and a team of HydraHeads selected in 24 hours or less.
HOW LONG DOES A PROJECT TAKE?
From posting a project, to selecting and briefing a team, to the final concepts, most Giant Hydra projects last between one and two weeks. Some projects have had more time allotted to them, while others have gone from start to finish in as little as five days.
WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?
Each Giant Hydra project takes place in a closed environment, accessible only by selected members of the team. All HydraHeads agree to keep project details confidential when they apply. For added confidentiality, agencies may request that selected HydraHeads sign a specific Non-Dislosure Agreement before being briefed on a project.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Less than you think, especially considering what you get out of it. While there are certain variables such as the number of HydraHeads on a project, the project’s length and its complexity, you’ll find Giant Hydra to be a sound financial option. As one CD puts it: “For the same price as hiring a couple of senior local freelancers, I got access to eight highly engaged and talented HydraHeads. It’s a no-brainer, really.”
